Hey Trent, I'm a retired maxfax surgeon and was interested to hear you describe what must be a very frustrating condition with your sinuses. I relate very much to your philosophy about treating your sinus infections using kitchen materials, etc. but I wanted to write as I think you likely have chronic sinusitis (not just the acute, one off kind) and that's a harder thing to shift. So if the garlic is working for you, that's brilliant and please do carry on. However these treatments often only work superficially and allow elements of the sinus infection to remain and then become chronic. If that happens, it will tend to have repeated flare ups which are often systemic and will make you feel generally unwell (fever, etc). If you're happy to try a slightly different (but more medical approach) you will see a massive improvement if you can take some steroidal treatment (if you're able to take these). This can be using tablets once daily (like loratadine or cetirizine) combined with a nasal spray like Flonase (fluticasone) again for a few days. It's a steroid spray but is a powerful anti-inflammatory that works really well when sprayed into the nose (use it lying down and aim up and back between your eyes so that it goes right into the area). If you use it for a few days you will be more likely to shift all the gunk out of your nose so that the infection is properly shifted. Once settled you can maintain it by rinsing your nose daily with warm sterile saline using a netipot (or similar). Also it's worth checking the source of the irritation: do you have any known allergies for example or is there an area in the house (or studio) that may have mold present? Sinusitis is different for different people, from how you described your symptoms it sounds inflammatory based (not anatomical) and that will affect your frontal and ethmoid sinuses (above and between the eyes) that then drain into the maxillary sinuses (in your cheeks) The pressure comes from fluid build up due to the lining of these areas becoming swollen, which stops them draining. So it's quite a large surface area of inflammation we're dealing with (about the area of your forearm) and often needs something a bit stronger and anti-inflammatory to get sorted. Hope I'm not crossing any boundaries here with this advice...please feel free to ignore it! Just want to help you get back to producing those wonderful paintings!

Just a heads up for you and your family: Do some research on low iodine levels in people worldwide. I will share a video with you and you can make a determination with Laura Jean. Stay well.

Trent & Lorajean, You should try planting your own garlic. Break the bulb up and plant the cloves about 4” deep and about 6” apart. Plant the point of the clove upwards and cover with soil. If you plant it in middle October just before the ground freezes. The cloves will have a couple few weeks to start its roots. Mulch it with straw and or chopped up maple leaves. The garlic will winter in the ground and once spring arrives it will start to come up. Harvest it when one third of the leaves at the bottom start to turn brown. Don’t let all the leaves turn brown because the “paper” layers will come off the new bulb and it will have to be used immediately because it won’t be able to keep. Your garlic bulbs should be able to keep for aprox. 6 - 9 months give or take. Soft neck keeps a bit longer than hard neck (2 types of garlic). After harvesting keep in a cool darker storage. Planting and harvesting garlic is a fun activity for children!!! Use a garden fork to lift each bulb out of the ground verses pulling it up.Let it cure out of the sun for about two weeks, then trim the roots and cut the stalk about two inches above the bulb. Garlic takes up very little space in your garden. 🙂One other tip: if you plant hard neck, they grow a scape. Cut that off as soon as it reaches a half curl and your garlic will continue to grow. If you leave it on, the plant will put its growing effort in growing the scape(seed). The scapes are edible. Grind them up and make pesto.

I was a long-time sub just saw you were on I was the one who sent the journal I made years ago. I have been suffering with sinus problems too, I take garlic fermented with local honey a tablespoon. also, elderberry syrup I make.as well as a Medi pot. And you can make your own oregano oil to take -I have been using tons of oregano and bone broth.

My family uses raw sauerkraut juice.. and if we drinking alot.. U can have a banana to help the electrolytes.. One thing that helps me.. Getting some fresh air moving threw me.. Good 30 mins is good.. Or if its nice.. A short nap is great.. U should add some pepper flakes to your soup.. Help open u up even more.. If you do this just in your own bowl.. Put them in and let it sit for about 5 mins and stir.. Hope you all feel better!

Chinese moms swear by ginger as a cold remedy, often loaded up in stew together with garlic. I'm a fan of cooked garlic in just about any dish that has garlic, and I'm okay eating 1 or 2 morsels of raw garlic. I haven't tried a big spoonful of raw garlic to help with a cold, though. I may try that out next time.
